Obituary of Arthur Herbert Ozzie Osgood
84, Halifax, passed away peacefully in hospital on Tuesday, October 4, 2011. Born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario he was the son of the late Thomas and Lillian (Bainbridge) Osgood. Dad was the last surviving member of his immediate family. At the age of 18, he joined the navy as an aircraft mechanic and was based in Shearwater. He was privileged to have served on HMCS Labrador on its maiden voyage through the Northwest Passage as well as the HMCS Bonaventure and retired as Chief Petty Officer after 25 years service. Dad had several jobs after the navy and finally retired from the Dockyard as Storesman in 1993. He was a member of CNAG (Canadian Naval Air Group) and a life member of the Earle Francis Spryfield Legion Branch 152 where he held the positions of Chaplain and Parade Marshall. Until his illness, he had never missed a parade. Before mom passed away, they were always out to the dances whether at the Legions or the Newfoundland Club. Dad will be sadly missed by his son Brian; daughter, Dianne (Michael) Whynot; granddaughters, Angela (Mark) and Melanie; numerous cousins. Heâll also be missed by his cat âKittyâ. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by Marian, his loving wife of 56 years, and older brother Tommy. Arrangements are under the direction of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Thursday, October 6 from 2 â 4 and 7 â 9 PM, with a Legion tribute service at 7 PM. Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 7 at 11 AM from the funeral home chapel, with Rev Carl Price officiating; reception immediately following. Interment to take place in Pine Hill Cemetery, Hubbards. Donations in dadâs memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimerâs Society of Canada.
