Obituary of Elizabeth Wadsworth

Passed away peacefully at Maplestone Enhanced Care facility in Halifax on Saturday, September 17 in her 88th year. Born in Lincolnshire she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Elsie (Wharton) Storr, and sister of John who predeceased her in 1986. Elizabeth grew up in Grimsby and during WWII was a nurse’s aide looking after children sent to the countryside to escape bombing raids. A war bride, she emigrated to Canada in 1946, became the mother of Andrew and Elizabeth Helen Wainwright, and for most of her working life was an ARN in hospitals and doctors’ offices. Her second marriage to Arn Wadsworth lasted forty-three years until his death in 2001, in Mount Forest, Ontario where they had resided for many years. She was a loving mother of her two children, mother-in-law of Marjorie Stone, and grandmother of Michael, Eric, and Christopher Wainwright, and was very proud of their accomplishments. Elizabeth was a great reader and particularly enjoyed the stories of James Herriot. In her eighties she could still recite poems by Thomas Hardy, Tennyson, and others that she learned in school. She was also an avid fan of Jeopardy and for many years able to answer any questions relating to the British monarchy. Although English-born, she loved the Canadian landscape and never forgot her several trips to the west coast and to Agawa Canyon in northern Ontario at the height of autumn splendour. After cremation, a private family gathering will take place at a later date.
