Obituary of Kevin Michael Oakley
53, Halifax, born March 7, 1958. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Kevin, beloved husband of Judy and loving father of Michael and Sarah. Kevin passed away on September 17, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He touched the lives of so many people and he has left us all too soon. After obtaining his Heavy Duty Equipment Operation certification in 1978, he had a long career in construction and operated many pieces of heavy equipment. In 2003, Kevin started his own company, and he also enjoyed many winters in Alberta working on the pipeline and making friends from across the country. In addition to the love for his family and the âmighty machinesâ, Kevin had a great passion for hunting and fishing. This is evident in the many trophies that hang on his wall and the story behind each and every trophy. Kevin leaves behind his wife, Judy; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Ingrid Oakley and only grandson Connor, Fredericton, NB; daughter, Sarah, Halifax; father, James (Leona) Oakley, New Chester; mother, Shirley Carson, Halifax; sisters, Marilyn (Arne) Syversen, Ottawa; Jane (George) Lane, New Chester; Kim Long (Michael Fitch); Gail (Herman) Peterson, both of Halifax; Joanne Oakley, Mount Uniacke; and brother, Jamie Oakley (Debbie Grant), Halifax. Kevin not only loved his immediate family, he loved Judyâs family, including her parents, Shirley Slauenwhite and the late Ben Slauenwhite, sister in-law, Janet (Brian) Lilly; brothers in-law, Ben Slauenwhite (Jennie Gagnon); Joey Slauenwhite (Sarah Dawson), all of Halifax; and John Slauenwhite (Lori Andrews), Mount Uniacke. Kevin loved all of his many nieces and nephews dearly, including his great-nieces and nephews, to whom he was âKevie with the Diggerâ. Kevin was predeceased by his brother Jimmie; sister, Judy, and stepfather Hugh Carson. The family wishes to thank the Nova Scotia Cancer Centre and the countless visitors and well-wishers who were so attentive during Kevinâs illness. Cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, Sept 20th from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, Sept 21st, at 11:00am in St. Michaelâs Roman Catholic Church, 14 Saint Michaelâs Avenue, Spryfield, Father Frank Pellerin officiating; reception to follow in the church hall, and interment taking place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the QEII Foundation â Nova Scotia Cancer Centre.
