Obituary of George Alexander Burns

Burns, George Alexander: 91, Halifax, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at White Hills Long Term Care Facility, Hammonds Plains, NS. Born in Balmoral, NS, he was a son of the late James and Willeamena (Larry) Burns. George retired from the Halifax Waterfront, as a Longshoreman, after 40 dedicated years of service. He was a long-time congregation member of Sheffield Baptist Church. George was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his sons, William (Sandra), Lower Sackville, NS, George (Kathy), Halifax, NS, and his daughter, Sharon Snair (Chris), Lower Sackville, NS. George was predeceased by his parents, his loving wife of 62 years, Mae Beatrice (Johnson) Burns in May of 2011, brother, Joseph, and sister, Florence. George's family wishes to thank the staff of White Hills Long Term Care Facility for the care and compassion given to him while in their care. Arrangements are under the care of JA Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4. Funeral service will be held on Monday, September 12, 2011 at 1 PM from Sheffield Baptist Church, 80 Lincoln Cross, Halifax, NS with Pastor Henry Grift officiating. Interment will take place in Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville, NS. The family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.
