Obituary of Joyce Marie Burton

78, Spryfield, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 24, 2011 in the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Irene (Zinck) Van Tassel. She was a long time resident of Spryfield. She enjoyed socializing and playing cards with her friends. Her pride and joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandson. She is survived by her son, George (Margie) Burton, Lawrencetown; grandchildren, Peggy (Bob) Doyle, Edmonton; Donald (Melissa) Burton; great-grandson, “Joseph” Macarius Burton, all of Bedford; brother, Rev. Albert (Fran) VanTassel, Springfield, Mass. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Burton; long time friend Alan Baker and grandson in-law Steve deMontbrun. The family extends special thanks to the caring staff on the 4th floor of the Dartmouth General for their long term care and support. Arrangements are under the care of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd, 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield. In Keeping with Joyce’s wishes their will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 27 at 2 PM from the funeral home chapel, with a reception to follow. Interment will take place after the reception in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Family flowers only. Donations in her name may be made to the Alzheimer Society or a charity of one’s choice.
