Obituary of Vernon Thomas Westhaver
Westhaver, Vernon (Vern) T, -88.It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, Vernon Westhaver of Halifax as a result of heart and kidney failure. Raised in Armdale, he was the son of the late Bernard & Josephine Westhaver. In 1936, Vernon was awarded the bronze star for bravery. He voluntarily joined the RCCS Army as a wireless operator from 1942-1946 & was one of the last remaining D Day Vets. After the war, he owned and operated OK Radio & TV for 36 years. Vernon was an ardent golfer and member of Ashburn Golf Club for many years. He was a lifetime member of Vimy Legion serving on the executive for several years. Vernon also served on the Spryfield Service Commission for 4 years. Vernon will be remembered as a social person. He thrived on being around people especially those with enthusiasm. For years, he enjoyed dancing and always held a great zest for life. Vernon & his family enjoyed many wonderful vacations in Kejimkiyik & since then have been lifetime friends with the Rogers family. Vernon would tell you that his proudest accomplishment in life would be his family whom he loved deeply. Vernon married Lucille (Shatford) in 1948 and stayed happily married until her death in 1987. He leaves behind his son, Steve; Halifax, daughter, Gail (Richard) Smith, Sambro Head; along with his two beloved granddaughters, Krista (Sean), and Lisa (John) & great-granddaughter Keira.
