Obituary of Walter John Derengoski

Derengoski, Walter John -65, of Halifax, passed away peacefully at home on June 17, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Walter and Lena (Stawnychko) Derengoski. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family. Walter is survived by his loving wife, Kathy (MacDonald); son, Walter B. (Mandy Owen); daughter, Jennifer; many nieces, nephews. Walter was predeceased by his twin sister Mary. Walter attended Queen Elizabeth High School and Halifax Regional Vocational School and became a Licensed Refrigeration Mechanic. He was employed with HRM for 32 years; the last 14 years as Chief Operator at Devonshire Arena. He respected and was respected by his many co-workers and hockey players at the rink, and was a dedicated union member. He took great pride in his work and was known by many as the “Zamboni Man”. Walter was a devoted husband and father to Walter Jr. and Jennifer. In life and even in death he never stopped providing for his family. He never hesitated to give a lift to family or a friend, no matter how busy or tired he was. Arrangements are under the care of J.A. Walker Funeral Home (2005), 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 22 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. A service of remembrance will be held on Thursday, June 23 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
