Obituary of Helen Pearle Billard

Billard, Helen Pearle- 86, Halifax passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at the New Halifax Infirmary, QE II, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lockeport, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Lila (Sabean) Burke. She was a member of the Topaz Rebekah Lodge # 125, and a long time resident of Joe Howe Manor. Many will remember Helen from operating Billard Grocery on Herring Cove Road with her late husband Vic. She is survived by her loving family, brother Jack Burke (Beverly), Shelburne, sister; Pauline Israel, Lockeport; grandchildren, Kirk MacDonald (Dawn Marie) Beaverbank, NS; and Jason Wilneff, Yukon, NWT; great granddaughter, Brianna MacDonald and great grandson, Bryden Wilneff, daughter –in-law, Elizabeth Gray, Halifax, step-daughter, Karen Walker; Ontario, as well as many nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her parents, husband, Victor; son, Gordon Wilneff; daughter, Lynn Burke; brother, Frank Burke and sister, Mary Scott. Arrangements are under the direction of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (477-5601). In keeping with Helen’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A service of remembrance will be held on Wednesday, June 15 at 1 p.m. from the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Trent D. Cleveland-Thompson officiating, followed by a reception. Interment will take place in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation.
