Obituary of Victor Samuel Grattan

74, passed away suddenly at home in Halifax, NS, on Sunday, May 22, 2011. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, he was a son of the late William and Janet “Jessie” (Gore) Grattan. Victor immigrated to Canada and began working at the Marystown Shipyard. He then moved to Halifax, where he worked as a welder until becoming a cook. He then worked in various locations as a cook within Halifax. Victor became a Canadian Citizen on January 21, 1975. He was a volunteer with the Lion’s Club and was a man who loved his family dearly. He will be fondly remembered by his daughters, Sharon Murphy (Pat), Tangier, and Janet Grattan, Dartmouth; step-daughters, Rosanne “Randy” McSweeney (Alan Daniels), Terence Bay, and Michelle “Shelly” Uwins, Hubbards, sisters, Irene McCann (Brian) and Margaret Saunders (George), both of Ireland, as well as his 8 grandchildren. He will be missed by his special dog, Shannon. Victor was predeceased by his wife of 31 years, Anne Marie, brother, Eric and step-son, Cyril James “CJ” McSweeney. Arrangements are under the care of JA Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS, (477.5601), where a memorial service will be held on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 2 PM in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Interment will take place at a later date in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
