Obituary of Myron James Lane

68, Portuguese Cove, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 15, 2011 in Maplestone Enhanced Care. Born in Windsor, he was the son of the late Clarence and Gladys (Hart) Lane. Myron was employed with the Federal Government for 38 years, beginning in 1967 with Taxation. In 1974 he joined Health and Welfare Canada, where he remained until his retirement. The pride of his life was his two sons, Dwayne and Sean, who were his greatest creations and his two best friends. The light of his life were his grandchildren, whom he adored. His passions were spending time gardening at his cottage in New Ross and golfing his best games in Greenwood. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing music. Myron is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Betty (Messervey), Portuguese Cove; sons, Dwayne (Kim), Lakeside and Sean (Laura), Portuguese Cove; his loving grandchildren, Michaela, Seth, Caleb and Kale. He is also survived by his brothers, Clarence (Kaye), Riverside, Hants Co.; Harley (Marilyn), Stittsville, Ont.; Ronald (Enid), Hillsborough, NB; William (Rose), East Ship Harbour; sister, Audrey Conway, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother in-law Kenneth Conway. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Hugh Matheson for his support throughout Myron’s illness. Thank you to the nurses, doctors and special caregivers including, dining room staff and cleaners at Maplestone Enhanced Care. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., (477-5601). In keeping with Myron’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A service of remembrance will be held on Tuesday, April 26 at 2 PM in Emmanuel Anglican Church, Rev. Mary Wilkie officiating, with a reception to follow in the church hall; private family burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Branch of the Parkinson Society.
