Obituary of James "Jim" Salsman

  Salsman, James C. "Jim"-66, of Halifax , passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, January 13, 2012, at the QEII, VG Site Palliative Care. Born in Lakeside, he was the only son of Jean (Bell) Salsman and the late Carl Salsman. From a very young age, Jim starting playing the guitar and continued playing the guitar all of his life. In 1969, he started a band called the "Bolero’s" with his buddies, Wayne and Francis. He played in many other bands through his life, as well. He worked at the Halifax Shipyard for many years as a welder. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and son. Jim will lovingly be remembered and never forgotten by his wife and companion of 24 years, Madeline "Maggie" (Power); children, Steven (Sandra), Vancouver, BC; Mark (Holly), Dartmouth; step-son, Justin Power, Marystown, NL; grandchildren, Chase, Aric, Bianca, Rykelle, Christopher and Kasper; brother and sister in law, Wayne and Phyllis Marchand; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.  The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of the VG Site 7A palliative care, for their compassionate care and support.Arrangements are under the direction of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (477-5601). In keeping with Jim wishes, there will be no visitation. A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, January 21 at 2 PM from St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, 2553 St. Margaret’s Bay Road, Timberlea, reception will follow the service in the church hall. Interment will be held in the spring in St. George’s Cemetery, Head of St. Margaret’s.  Family flowers only. Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
