Obituary of Clyde Collin Hilton

HILTON, Clyde Collin – 86, Halifax. It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our dearest and most precious husband, father and grandfather, Clyde Collin Hilton, who passed away peacefully on Friday, March 2, 2012, in Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building. Born March 28, 1925 in Halifax, he was the son of the late Joseph and Erema (Lantz) Hilton. Dad was the Vice-President of the Olympic Gardens for 50 years until his retirement. He touched so very many people’s hearts there with his kindness and anyone who knew or visited the Olympic bingo knew Clyde. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Dad enjoyed his music and large collection of records; and many family get togethers. He was a true people person, always putting others and especially his family, before himself. He had a great love for his family who meant everything to him, along with his wide assortment of family pets throughout the years. He will be sadly missed by his best friend and loving wife of 65 years, Gloria (Wickie); his children, Ginny (Pierre) Nantel, Halifax; Michael, Cape Breton; Chris (Helen), Halifax; Lori (Donnie) MacLeod, Halifax; grandchildren, Marc and Pierrette Nantel, Cody and Jarad Hilton, and John MacLeod, who loved his "Pup" dearly.  He is also survived by his brother, Harold (Monica), Enfield; sister, Betty Lewin, Halifax; many nieces and nephews.   Many thanks to Drs. Matheson, McKnight and MacLeod, and all of the staff of V6E, Veterans Memorial Building for their compassionate care and support. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Friday, March 9 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.  Service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, March 10 at 11 AM from the funeral home chapel, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Clyde’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
