Obituary of John Dwyer

81, Williamswood, passed away peacefully on Sunday April 1, 2012 in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Carbonear, NL, November 24, 1930, he was a son of the late John and Roseanna (Kehough) Dwyer. John had worked on the U.S. Naval Base, Stephenville, NL. Worked for the city putting in sidewalks in Halifax, then in 1960 started working as a Stevedore for 30 years until his retirement. He was a jack of all trades, always helping family, friends and neighbors. He enjoyed hockey, loved his music, horseshoes, darts, cards, and bowled with Joe’s League and Pro League. John is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Shirley (Keating); sons, John (Linda), Ronald (Pattie), Gary (Pam); daughters, Donna (Calvin) Martin, Peggy (Mont), Joanne (Roger) Pippy, Margaret (Chester) Stewart, Corene (Terry), Michelle (Fred) Thompson; brother, William (Bill), Carbonear, NL.; sisters, Mary Romo, Genevieve Bonang, both of Dartmouth, Margaret (Eve) Brewer, Kline Heights, Margaret Rose Mayer, Jefferson, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Darin, Erin, Curtis, Stephanie, Laura, Sarah, Joslyn, Victoria, Mathew, Seretha, Alicia, William, Kristy, Alan, Corey, Kelsey, Trisha, Dana, Cody, Devin; great grandchildren Adrian, Alexander; and lots of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, James, Kevin; sisters, Kathleen, Catherine, Susannah, Ellen and Elizabeth. No visitation by request. Arrangements are under the care of J.A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. (477-5601). A funeral mass will take place on Wednesday April 4, at 2 p.m., from the St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Michael’s Ave. Spryfield, with Father Frank Pellerin as celebrant. Reception to follow. Interment to take place at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Hemophilia Society. A special thank you to the nurses and doctors at the Halifax infirmary 8.4 for your loving care and support and to Dr, Matheson, Spryfield Medical Centre, many thanks to Sister Johanna and all who visited in the hospital and at home.
