Obituary of Sylvia Dawn Riley

76, Halifax, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on May 4, 2012 at the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Morristown, she was a daughter of the late Wayne Morse and the late Iona (Dewinter) Ashton. Sylvia was a homemaker, an avid knitter, guitar player in her younger years and a Blue Jays fan and enjoyed reading about the British Royal Family. She was also a life long member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Earl Francis Legion, Branch 152. She was the glue that held the family together through many hard times and was always there when her family needed her the most. Her world revolved around her children and grandchildren and thoroughly enjoyed her cat Snowball, which brought her much happiness in the last few months of her life. Sylvia is survived by son, Darryl (Pat Chambers), Boutiliers Point; daughters, Dianne Emmett, Victoria B.C.; Dawne Dartt (Raymond), Hammonds Plains; Debbie (Danny Evans), Halifax; grandchildren, Richard, Robert and Charmaine Emmett, Cory, Justin and Sheena Riley, Jennifer, Jeffrey and Michael Dartt and Sarah Evans; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Tupper, Aylesford; half brother Eric Ashton, Halifax. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Clarence "Junior" (August 2011) and two children in infancy. Cremation has taken place under the care of J.A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. 149 Herring Cove Rd. (477-5601) Halifax, where visitation will be from 12-1 p.m. Tuesday May 8, with a Service of Remembrance to follow at 1p.m. , reception after service. Interment to take place in Fairview Lawn Cemetery, Halifax. Donations in memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Branch. A special thanks to the staff of the Emergency Department, 5.2 ICU, Halifax Infirmary,QEII, the nurses at the Dialysis Unit V.G. Site, QEII for making a hard situation into a social event, Lionel Young for his singing which would always put a smile on Mom’s face. Gary Kidston for being her bus buddy, Dr. Rosemary White for her wonderful care over the years and her staff. Access-A-Bus drivers, Mary and Glen Mclean for always being there when needed and Donald Cameron of J.A. Walker Funeral Home and a family friend for going above and beyond again when our family needed him the most. Mom will be sorely missed but leaves us with many wonderful memories.
