Obituary of Helen Ruth Ferguson

FERGUSON, Helen Ruth – 92, Halifax. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Ruth Ferguson on Thursday, August 2, 2012. She was the daughter of the late Annie and Gerrie Lightfoot. Born in Montreal, she lived in Armdale with her family for the last 57 years. Helen worked for the Federal Government in the Health Protection branch before retiring at age 65. She enjoyed her family, gardening, crosswords, a good game of Scrabble and playing the stock market. After her retirement she and her husband had a wonderful trip to Europe and took several other trips to the United States and within Canada. She is survived by her sons, Brian, Bill (Sharon) and daughter, Marlene Elliott (Jim). She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Reg and Chris Jones and Rebecca Ferguson. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Willard and brother, Gerrie. Thank you to the wonderful palliative care and their departments in the QEII, Dr. Meehan, Rivera Care Workers, Judy Powers Nursing, the VON and the wonderful staff at Victoria Hall for their care and comfort and for making our mothers last few weeks comfortable. Arrangements are under the care of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax. In keeping with Helen’s wishes there will be no visitation. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, August 8 at 1 PM from the funeral home chapel, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Victoria Hall in Halifax.
