Obituary of Derrick Gage

48, Williamswood, NS, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2012 at the VG Palliative Care Unit, after a courageous battle with cancer with family members at his side.  Born in Halifax on June 8, 1964, he was the cherished eldest son of Edward and Yvonne Gage.  Besides his parents, he is survived by his two sons, Matthew and Ethan, his only brother, Kelly (Susan), and his nephew, Nathan.  He also leaves to mourn several loved aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Derrick was an avid sports fisherman and truly enjoyed his many fishing trips with his friends at their cottage in Mooseland.  He loved the ocean and being amongst his friends in the Sambro area.  He was employed with the Municipality of Halifax in the RCMP unit at the time of his death.  Derrick was a very proud father and was happiest enjoying his precious time with his sons, Matthew and Ethan.  He treasured his Mom, Dad, and brother, Kelly, and he loved family gatherings where he was known for cooking Rappit Pie.  He will be sadly missed by all his loved ones.  Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the VG Palliative Care Unit and the many Red Cross Home Care Workers who assisted Derrick at home.   Cremation has taken place.  A time for memories will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012 from 6-8 PM at JA Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS (477.5601).  Donations in memory of Derrick may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of one’s choice.  Words of comfort may be sent to the family by visiting www.walkerfh.com
