Obituary of Matthew Frederick Mills
86, long time resident of Spryfield, passed away peacefully in the presence of his granddaughter, Hayley, after a long courageous battle with Leukemia. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Russell and Sarah (Hiscock) Mills.
Matthew’s employment started with Manning Equipment. He also worked for K-Mart for many years as a Stock Manager. He loved gardening and enjoyed sitting under his tree, he also enjoyed watching hockey and eating his peanuts. He was an avid singer and sung for many years with the Chebucto Singers, the church choir and the Nova Scotia International Tattoo.
Matthew will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Amy (Simpson); daughter, Linda (Don) Thornhill; sons, Stephen (Ginette) and Michael (Dorothy); grandchildren, Nadine (Mike) Gauthier, Marc (Marrianne) Thornhill, Michelle Mills, Luke (Vicky) Mills, Hayley (Darren) Mills, Jonathan Mills, Harold (Heather) Kennedy; great-grandchildren, Blake, Layla, Edmund, Mason, Fisher, Avery, Maggie and Libby. He was predeceased by, infant daughter, Susan Gail Mills.
The family would like to extend special thanks to EMS, emergency and the hospital staff of the QEII 8.4; to Dr. MacDonald and Dr.Higgins, Wanda of the Hematology Clinic and to all family and friends, for their care and support.
Arrangements are under the direction of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 2 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A service of remembrance will be held on Wednesday, October 3 at 1 PM in St. Paul’s United Church, Rev. Jeanne Manning Stright officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church hall. Family flowers only, donations in Matthews’s memory may be made to St. Paul’s United Church.
