Obituary of Valerie Marie Reashor
45, Herring Cove. It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we regret to announce that our beloved Valerie passed away on Saturday, September 29th, 2012 surrounded by her family, after her courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of Ernest and Carol (Doubleday) Mickelberg. She will be sorrowfully missed by her partner, Stewart (Irons); her daughter, Candice; sisters, Nancy Christian (Blair), Linda Young (Troy Saunders); many nephews and great niece, including step children.
Valerie was the most amazing mother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend a person could ever have. She was employed at Dalhousie University for over 25 years. Her true passion in life was Karate, which she received her 3rd degree black belt, which was her proudest achievement. Other passions were, camping with Stewart and Candice and their friends, playing her guitar, dressing up for Halloween and seeing her daughter playing basketball. She also enjoyed her previous membership in the NSRA with her father and sisters (aka Ernie's Angels).
We wish to thank the staff at the VG site 5A and the 11th floor, especially Dr. Arik Drucker (also Jodie) and Dr. Robert Rutledge, for their extra care and attention. Also to Erin Montgomery for her beautiful music therapy, which we all enjoyed.
Cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. No visitation by request of the family. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 4 at 10 AM at St. James Anglican Church, Herring Cove, Rev. Allan Frye officiating, with a reception to follow at the church hall. Interment will take place at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations in Valerie’s memory can be made to St. James Anglican Church Fund, or a charity of your choice.
