Obituary of William Carl Slaunwhite

Terence Bay. With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our father, William Carl Slaunwhite, 91 years, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 in the Veteran’s Memorial Building, QEII.   Dad served during the Second World War with the North Nova Regiment. After arriving in England he was transferred to the Algonquin Regiment and was returned to the North Nova prior to returning home in 1945. Soon after returning to Nova Scotia he met and married our mother, the love of his life, Frances Blackburn of Lower Prospect. After leaving the military he was employed in various areas and was instrumental in starting the first school bus service in Terence Bay using his panel truck. He finished his employed years as a painter with CFB Halifax Dockyard, retiring with 38 years of service. Dad enjoyed his outdoor activities; hunting, fishing, hiking, skating, camping and swimming at aunt Ressie’s beach. He and mom spent many hours exploring Nova Scotia, Canada and a memorable trip to Europe. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and keeping in touch with life long friends.   Survived by his six children, Carolyn (Danny) Jollimore, Jean (Paul) Garrison, Patsy (Bub) Pettipas, Christine (Darrell) Slaunwhite, Larry (Debra) Slaunwhite, Lisa (Ward) Drew; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren with the 18th on the way; also survived by his sister, Marion Slaunwhite. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Frances (Blackburn); brothers, Corbett, Reddy and Allison; sisters, Geraldine, Annie, Monica, Ressie, May, Evelyn, Ethel, Gladys, Lillian and Edith.   Our family would like to express our sincere appreciation to all the medical and non-medical staff at the NS Rehab and the 5East Garrison at the Veteran’s Memorial.   Arrangements are under the direction of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (477-5601), where visitation will be held Thursday, October 4 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
