Obituary of Gordon Harold Wicks
90, of Halifax N.S. went to be with his Lord on October 5th, 2012 while resting at home. He was a son of the late Israel and Daisy (Vincent) Wicks. Gordon was born in Wesleyville, NL on January 6, 1922. Gordon was married to Eleanor (Richards) Wicks on August 7th, 1952; they were married 60 years. Gordon joined the Royal Navy at 18 years of age in 1940 and served with the Merchant Marine for the span of World War II, he was employed as a captain for 25 years before taking on the role of Harbour Pilot for the final 7 years of his career. He enjoyed gardening and time near the ocean. Gordon’s faith in God was strong. Gordon is survived by his wife, Eleanor; children, Eric, Sandra McIntyre and Cheryl Walker; brothers, Jesse (Delilah), Jack (Lillian), Jim (Jean) and Israel; Sister, Elva Churchill; grandchildren, Jeffrey, James Slaunwhite, Jonathan MacIntyre, Jason MacIntyre, Andrew Walker, Danielle Walker, Ericka, and Ashley ; great grandchildren, Kennedy Chamberlain, Joshua Slaunwhite and Justin Tanner. Gordon was predeceased by his brothers John, Marshall, Cyril and his sisters Annie and Elizabeth. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. (477-5601) 149 Herring Cove Rd. where visitation will be held on today October 8th, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with funeral service Tuesday October 9th at 2:00p.m. from the funeral home chapel. Interment to follow the funeral procession in the West Lahave Cemetary, West LeHave.
