Obituary of Stella Margaret Poirier

81, Halifax, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2012, in Melville Lodge Nursing Home.  Born on January 16, 1931, in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Stella Christina (Boudreau) and Joseph Regis (Reg) Poirier.  Stella was our special angel.  After her mother’s death Stella was placed in the following nursing homes which she called home: The Abbie Lane Hospital, Scotia Nursing Home (Vista Lodge) in Beaverbank, Glades Nursing Home and Meville Lodge Nursing Home in Halifax.  Stella was loved by all who met her.  She was named the greeter at most of her homes and had a big smile, wave and hugs for all who wanted one.  Stella enjoyed music, people, colouring, and treats.  She often wanted to show off you or her presents to the nurses "Nurse, look what I got".  Stella was a happy soul and will be missed by all.  She is survived by her sisters, Maria Jo Jackson, Halifax; Louise (Jack) Clancey, Dartmouth; brother-in-law, Eric Edens, Bedford and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Paul & Jean Poirier; sister and brother-in-law, Theresa & John Spearns; sister, Helen Edens and brother-in-law, Charles Jackson. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all who took care of Stella over the years.  She had many wonderful, dedicated friends at her homes that loved her and took great interest in her and us.  No words can express our gratitude.  Thank You! Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Thursday, October 18 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, October 19 at 10 AM at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Herring Cove, with Father Zak Romanowsky as Celebrant; interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.  Memorial donations can be made to Canadian Mental Health Nova Scotia Division or to a charity of your choice.
