Obituary of Kenneth "Ken" Murray Armsworthy

78, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2012, surrounded by his loving family, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Halifax, on June 14, 1934; he was the son of the late Spencer and Erma (Mitchell) Armsworthy. At a young age the family moved to Spryfield and he remained in the Spryfield, Herring Cove area his whole life. Ken worked on the Halifax Waterfront for forty three years, and was a proud member of I.L.A local 269 until his retirement in 1997. He loved his job and made many life long friends. After retirement he enjoyed bowling, playing a game of crib, spending time in the yard and hunting. Ken loved country music and attended jamborees at Nine Mile River for over 25 years, as well as ones throughout the area. Ken was a loving husband, father and "pop"and will be lovingly missed by his wife of 57 years, Fay (Turner), son, Dwayne (Sandra), Portuguese Cove; daughters, Natalie (Steven), Calgary, AB, Cathy (Leigh) Cole Harbour; sisters, Phyllis Westhaver, Fox Point, Jean Armsworthy, Spryfield; Beverly (Kenneth) MacDonald, Sudbury, ON; proud pop to grandchildren, Amanda, Andrew, Joseph, Scott, Spencer, Mitchell and Haley, great grand daughter Samantha; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Joseph; sister, Maureen Micheau; son-in-law, Andy Klatt. Arrangements are under the direction of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd, Halifax, (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 19 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 20 at 10 AM at the funeral home chapel, reception to follow. Interment to take place in Emmanuel Anglican Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in Ken's memory may be made to the Emmanuel Anglican Cemetery Fund or charity of one’s choice. The family would like to thank the entire staff of floor 8.1 Halifax Infirmary for their loving care, kindness and the compassion shown to Ken and his family, with a special thank you to our dear friend Chris for his visits and crib games.
