Obituary of Jeremiah Patrick Larkin

Larkin, Jeremiah  P. "Jerry"- It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Jerry on March 7, 2013 at the Halifax Infirmary after a fall at home. Born in Charlottetown, April 7, 1924, he was the son of the late Henry and Kathleen (Kelly) Larkin. He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Noreen; sons, Russell "Rusty" (Rae) and John, Halifax, son-in-law, Ken Cameron, Grand River, sister, Frances Allen, Head of Jeddore, grandchildren, Joshua (Audrey), Donald (Mary Anne) and Chacity (Stuart); great grandchildren, Noah and Ayden, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Shirley Larkin-Cameron, sisters, Dorothy, Olive and Mary, brother, Edward "Eddy". Jerry was a graduate of St. Pat’s High. He worked from a young age at various jobs including selling newspaper as he once did to baseball legend, Babe Ruth. He worked as circulation manager at the Halifax Herald after which he was employed by People’s Credit Jewelers for many years. Jerry went on to car sales at Teasdale and Foote and later management at Bob McDonald Chev-Olds. In 1977, Jerry started his own business, Larkin Trophies, which he ran with his family until 1999. Jerry’s loves were his family, travel, golf, cards, humour, a good story, his backyard projects and his community. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. (477-5601) 149 Herring Cove Rd., where visitation will take place Wednesday March 13, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral mass will be held Thursday March 14 at 1 p.m. from St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Father Frank Pellerin as celebrant. Reception to follow in church hall. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
