Obituary of Evelyn Mary McCready

 - 92, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2013 at Melville Lodge.  Evelyn was born in Halifax to the late Charles and Bessie McCready. She was the youngest of nine children; brothers Roy, Louis, Charles, and Gerard, and sisters Rosie, Helen, Margaret and Mary, all deceased. She was adopted at an early age by Richard and Eunice Flemming of Ketch Harbour, where she was lovingly raised. She had a strong faith and was an active member of Saint Peter’s parish, helping Eunice in the canteen at the community dances in her youth.  She eventually took over the Canada Post Office following Richard’s death and opened a general store, which she continued to run for over 35 years. Evelyn was a kind hearted and generous woman, giving freely to all who knew her. She was talented at needlepoint, cards and loved baseball, especially the Blue Jays.  She will be fondly remembered by the family of Ken and the late Joan Spears, who called her "Aunt Evelyn", shared many happy occasions with her and became her caretakers in her later years. She passed her retirement in Herring Cove, with frequent trips back to Ketch Harbour with Ken and Joan. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Edna McCready, and many nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. Evelyn’s funeral mass will be  celebrated on Wednesday May 15th at 11:00 AM in Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, Ketch Harbour, Fr. Zach Romansky as celebrant; reception to follow in church hall. Interment to take place in church cemetery. Words of comfort can be sent to the family by visiting www.walkerfh.com
