Obituary of Cora Mary Latimer

Latimer,Cora Mary,July 21, 1926-May 6, 2013. It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Cora Mary Latimer of Ivy Meadows, Beaver Bank, formerly from Sydney and Loch Lomond, on Monday, May 6, 2013.Beloved sister, mother, grandmother and aunt, Cora will be missed by all she knew.Born in Mount Auburn (near Loch Lomond), Cape Breton, Cora Mary was the loving daughter of the late Margaret (MacKenzie) and Malcolm Shaw.Cora Mary is survived by her daughter, Margie (Ken) Power, Halifax; and grandsons, Jarrett and Matthew, both of Halifax. Also surviving are her sisters, Shirley (Frank) Halliday, Sydney, N.S., and Mollie MacLeod, Hamilton, Ont.; brother, Tony (Jemima) Shaw, Westmount, N.S.; and numerous nieces and nephews; along with the ladies from Topshee Drive.Cora Mary was predeceased by her husband, John, son, Norman, sisters, Helen (McCormack), Becky (Williams), brothers, Norman and Kenny, brothers-in-law, Bill McCormack, Ian MacLeod, Austin Williams and Malcolm MacLeod, sister-in-law, Annie MacLeod (Shaw) and nephew, Malcolm Williams, niece, Melina.She was an adherent of Bethel Presbyterian and Calvin Presbyterian churches. Mary will be remembered most for her vibrant personality that would light up any room she entered. Cora Mary was gentle and kind, with a special love of cats. She loved to laugh and listen to music, especially country and Gaelic songs, she was community and church minded, she gave of her time selflessly. She was involved with the dog therapy program and donated cushions for the pews in her church. Her many years of service with the St. John’s Ambulance will be long remembered, where  Cora Mary could be seen at every Big Pond Concert, Christmas Daddies volunteer or concerts at the Sydney Forum/C200. She greeted people with open arms and unconditional love.Nobody was in need of a hug with Cora Mary by their side. She will live on in the hearts of all she touched.  Special thanks to Sarah Brown and the staff from Ivy Meadows for their love and compassion shown toward Cora Mary.There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Cora Mary’s life will take place in August 2013, at Calvin Presbyterian Church in Loch Lomond, Cape Breton, N.S.Internment will take place at Loch Side Cemetery, Mount Auburn, N.S.Arrangements are under J.
