Obituary of Michael Robert "Mickey" Connors

CONNORS, Michael Robert "Mickey" – 73, Halifax, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 12, 2013 in the VG Site, QEII. Born in Halifax he was the son of Stella (Ferguson) and the late Cyril Connors. Mickey worked at the Halifax shipyards for many years. He was a very active Union member, fighting for the rights of the workers was very important to him. In his spare time he was an avid fisherman and duck hunter, spending a lot of time enjoying the outdoors with family and friends. Mickey’s family came first; he was a loving husband, father and grandfather, spending as much time with them as he could. He will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 50 years, Phyllis (Slaunwhite); daughter, Lynn Connors; grandchildren, Krista-Lee, Michael and Joseph Mabe; great-grandson, Austin Smith; sisters, Maureen Connors and Carolyn (Al) Boudreau; many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mothers sister, aunt, Hattie Milbury. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit 7A VG Site, QEII, and also to all of our family and friends for their loving care and support. Arrangements are under the care of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, where visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, May 16 at 2 PM in Saint Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church. Interment will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Donations in Mickey’s memory may be made to the Diabetes Association or to the VON.
