Obituary of George Orval Harrison

HARRISON, George Orval – 80, Terence Bay, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family Friday, May 17, 2013 in QEII Health Sciences Center. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Harold and Marie (Lyons) Harrison. George worked for Burgess Transport and Storage as an estimator for 28 Years. He was also the Fire Chief of the Terence Bay Volunteer Fire Department. He was a dedicated life long member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church serving as Treasurer for 13 years. In his spare time he enjoyed playing cards, writing poems, carpentry and traveling with family and friends. George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Florence (Jollimore); children, Dale (John) Sotirakos, Brookside;  Bradford "Bo" (Gail), Calgary, Alberta; Dawn (Ken) Hubley, Porters Lake; Darren (Charlotte), Spiritwood, Saskatchewan; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth (Kay), New Glasgow; sister, Linda (Ted) Stevens, Lower Sackville; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of the QEII 8.4, especially to Ryan, Sylvia, Wendy, Honey, Michelle, Deb, Irene, Charlene and Dr. Ripley, for their compassionate care and support. Arrangements are under the care of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 21 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 22 at 11 AM in St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Terence Bay, Rev. Glenn Eason officiating; a reception will follow in the fire hall. Family flowers only. Donations in George’s memory may be made to the St. Paul’s Church Building Fund.
