Obituary of Lorraine Theresa Day

DAY, Lorraine Theresa - 87, Herring Cove, passed away peacefully with family by her side at the QEII New Halifax Infirmary, on Friday, August 2, 2013.  Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late George and Sara "Sadie" (Collier) Young.   Known as a true lady to all who knew and loved Lorraine, she will be remembered as the neighborhood "mother" to many growing up in Herring Cove.  She was a very social woman who loved to be surrounded by a crowd.  She loved to knit and play cards, especially those high-stakes games of a penny a hand.  In her younger years, she loved to travel and go on bus tours. Most recently, she enjoyed the common room of Margaret Latter Manor, where she shared many special times with the girls.   The last surviving member of her immediate family, Lorraine is survived by two sons, Dereck "Rick" Day, Herring Cove, NS, and Gary (Jacqueline) Day, Halifax, NS, granddaughters, Taylor and Cleanne, grandson, Dylan, a nephew, Danny, as well as great-nieces, Theresa, Leah and Michelle.  She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Edmund Day, a son, Ronald Day, sisters, Nonie and Rita, and a niece, Karen.  The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of 8.4, QEII, and also to Theresa for her love and care given to Lorraine. Cremation has taken place under the care of JA Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS (477.5601).  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 10 AM from St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Hebridean Avenue, Herring Cove.  Interment will take place in St. Paul’s Cemetery.  Donations in memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
