Obituary of Muriel Pearl Acker

ACKER, Muriel Pearl - 95, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24, 2013.  Born in West Jeddore, she was a daughter of the late George and Annie (Bowser) Slaunwhite.  Muriel had been the proprietor of Distinctive Beauty Salon, selling the business and retiring to working as a hair stylist from her home in 1956. She is survived by her only son, Garry Newcombe (Diane), St. Croix; granddaughter, Tina Melanson; grandson, Terry Newcombe;  great-granddaughter, Hayley Morgan Melanson; sister-in-law, Lois Slaunwhite, who the family wishes to thank for her many years of friendship to Muriel.  She was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm Acker; brothers, Douglas and Gordon Slaunwhite; sister, Freda Slaunwhite. Arrangements are under the care of J.A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Thursday, August 29 from 6-9 PM.  The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 30 at 11 AM from the funeral home chapel, with a reception to follow.  Burial will take place in Pleasant Point Cemetery.
