Obituary of Gwendolyn Gladys Feltham
91, Spryfield. It is with heavy hearts that the family announce the passing of Gwendolyn Gladys Feltham on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at home. Born in Spryfield, she was a daughter of the late John and Pheobe (Downing) Nicholson.
Gwen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and was loved by all. She was proud to have been born and raised in Spryfield, and lived there all her life. She was married for 56 years to Arthur, until his passing in 2002. Prior to her marriage, Gwen worked at several movie theatres and as a part-time housekeeper in Halifax. Following her marriage, Gwen was a stay-at-home Mom for over 20 years, returning to work at Eaton’s until her retirement in 1986 after 21 years service. She was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Anglican Church. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her children, Ron (Sharon), Williamswood; Bonnie (Derek) Firth, Lower Sackville; Earl (Doreen), Mount Uniacke; Heather (Derek) Lane, Lower Sackville and Kathy (Stephen) Melvin, Halifax; grandchildren, Rhonda (Henry) Lee, Keith (Holly) Feltham, Steven (Angela) Firth, Karen (Donny) Larlee, Joanne Firth (Christian Laforce), Krista (Dan) McClair, Amie (Andrew) Keating, Kevin (Michelle) Feltham, Blain Lane (Kristine Fraser), Richie (Tina) Lane, Craig Lane (Heather Smith), Chad Lane, Janine Melvin (Raymond Robichaud), Jillian Melvin (Jonny Anderson), Andrew Melvin (Leah Little); step-grandchildren, Duncan, Holly and Emily MacKay; great-grandchildren, Alex and Abbie Goodbrand-Feltham, Rachel and Jenny Lee, Evan Larlee, Colin and Owen McClair, Hannah and Grace Keating, Kyle Arsenault (Lane), Emily and Anna Lane, Dylan and Kyleigh Melvin-Bannister, and soon to arrive, Mason Melvin-Robichaud; step great-granddaughter, Emma Forbes; Mrs. Pat Baker, her friend and neighbor of 51 years; Kim Northrop, who was like a granddaughter to Gwen, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Arthur; Gwen was predeceased by daughter in-law, Donna Feltham; brothers, Sam, Alec and Sammy (in infancy); sisters, Vida Zinck, Ruth Hatfield and Myrtle (in infancy). She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield (477-5601), where visitation will take place on Sunday, October 27 from 6-9 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, October 28 at 11:00 AM in Emmanuel Anglican Church, 322 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield, with a reception to follow in the church hall. Interment will take place in Emmanuel Anglican Cemetery. Donations in Gwen’s memory may be made to Emmanuel Anglican Church or to a charity of your choice.
