Obituary of Cecil Robert "Bucky" Gilkie

GILKIE, Cecil Robert "Bucky":  92, Halifax, NS, passed away on September 24, 2013 at the Halifax Infirmary, Halifax, NS with his loving family by his side.  Born on Sambro Island, NS, he was a son of the late Albert and Anne (Hartlen) "Mummy Down Home" Gilkie.   Throughout his life, Bucky was a carpenter, an avid fisherman and hunter.  He will be remembered as being a loving husband of 62 years to Katherine, father, grandfather and brother.  Bucky is survived by his wife, Katherine (Flemming), his sons, Robert, Leo (Margaret), Daniel (Patsy), and Oliver, his daughters, Mary Gilkie, Margie VanMerrebach (Ron), Jo-Ann Gilkie, Angie Mabe (Emerson), and Irene Gilkie (Rob), his siblings, Dolly Gray (Marshall), Sheila Darrah, Sylvia Schnare (Clarence), Stewart Gilkie (Muriel), and Kenny Gilkie (Edna), as well as 12 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a son, Arthur, brothers, Ralph, Donnie, and Brenton "Mall Hammer", a sister, Leta.             Cremation has taken place under the care of JA Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS (477.5601).  By request, there will be no visitation or service.  Donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.  Words of comfort may be sent to the family by visiting www.walkerfh.com
