Obituary of Alexander Roberts
ROBERTS, Alexander - Age 91, passed away peacefully in the Halifax Infirmary QEII on November 23, 2013 with loved ones by his side. Born September 9, 1922 in Pushthrough, N.L. he was the only son of the late Nathaniel and Florence Roberts.
He immigrated to Canada from Newfoundland in 1944. Alex was involved in the fishery all of his life, as a Captain on many fishing vessels including long liners, draggers and fisheries research vessels. He endured harsh, cold weather and rough seas in order to provide for his family. He loved to bake for his family, especially big loaves of Newfoundland bread and enjoyed the dances at the Newfoundland Club. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his daughter, Audrey (William) Brewer, Meagher’s Grant; sons, Clarence (Sheryl), Middle Musquodoboit and Raymond (Sara), Halifax; grandchildren, Dwayne, Kim, Annette, Mark, David, Angela, Kerry, Kelly and Melissa; fourteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his special friend Mary Warren. He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Minnie Alice (Piccott).
Sincere appreciation to his grandson Mark and partner Dale Brewer for the love, care and attention they provided to Alex during the past year.
Cremation has taken place under the care of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield, where visitation will take place on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 from 10-11 AM followed by a service of remembrance at 11 AM from the funeral home chapel. Interment will take place in St. James Cemetery, Herring Cove. Donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or charity of choice.
