Obituary of Murray Nathan "Boze" Brewer

Age 64, Hammonds Plains, passed away on February 2, 2014 in the V.G. Site, QEII. Murray was born on June 10, 1949, the oldest of five children, of Evelyn (Dwyer) and the late Murray Brewer (2001) and grew up on Marriott St. in Armdale. As a child, he enjoyed spending summers in Ingonish, Cape Breton with his family and cousins and throughout his life always looked for an excuse to revisit his favorite fishing spots on the island. He attended Halifax West High School and in 1980 travelled to the Northwestern School of Taxidermy in Massachusetts, with his son Scott, where he received a diploma in taxidermy, in which he excelled in as a hobby. Samples of his work are proudly displayed in many hunting camps and rec rooms throughout Nova Scotia and as far away as Ontario. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing each year with his best friend and "brother" Bob Fraser. Murray was a great story and joke teller, always made time for anyone who needed his help. He had a real knack for building and repairing which he learned from his father, Murray A. Brewer. He worked with Simpson’s/The Bay in Halifax for 31 years. He started his career in the warehouse at the age of 17 and quickly moved to the selling floor in the major appliance and furniture departments. During his career he received numerous President’s Awards of Excellence for commission/warranty sales. In 2001, Murray changed careers and worked ten years as a real estate agent with Prudential Real Estate in Bedford. Murray is survived by his wife of 13 years, Sandra (Scriven); sons, Scott, Toronto, Ont.; Shawn, Halifax; sisters, Nancy McLaughlin (Terry); Shelia Rose (Cyril); Debbie Spindler (David); June Sullivan (John), all of Halifax; grandson, Logan; nephews, Scott (Annie); Chris (Sarah); Mark; Kyle (Erin), Colin (Danielle); Andrew; nieces, Julie (Nick); Emily (Matt); former wife Evelyn Brewer (Barron); as well as many cousins throughout HRM. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. (477-5601) 149 Herring Cove Rd., where visitation will be held on Thursday February 6 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Murray’s life will be held on Friday February 7 at 11 a.m. from St. John the Baptist Church Purcells Cove Rd., reception to follow in the church hall. Interment to take place at a later date. Donations in Murray’s memory may be made to your local SPCA. Murray fought a very brave fight during his illness and the family would like to thank the various doctors and nurses at the V.G. Hospital, as well as the VON, who helped him during his year long battle with Laryngeal cancer.
