Obituary of Stella Mary West
age 92, Halifax NS passed away peacefully on February 4, 2014 in the QE II Health Sciences Centre, Halifax NS. Born May 19, 1921 in Courtenay, BC, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Stella (White) Hamon.
She grew up in Vancouver where she worked for BC Tel. During WWII she worked for the British Food Commission in Washington DC USA; later she worked for CP Airlines, and Birks. Stella lived for most of her adult life in Ottawa and moved to Halifax at age 82 to be closer to family.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be fondly remembered by her sons, Bryce, Toronto ON, and Michael, daughter in law, Lois and grandchildren, Alex and Madeline, all of Halifax, NS; sister-in-law, Yvonne Hamon, Kingston ON; special nephew, Peter (Donna) Hamon, Dartmouth NS; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her former husband BGen (ret) James T. West and brothers, Herbert, Richard and Robert Hamon.
Cremation has taken place under the care of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd, Halifax, where visitation will be held on Saturday, February 8th from 12 to 2 pm. A private family graveside gathering will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Stella may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
