Obituary of Jean "John" Claude Gauthier
87, Halifax, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2014 in Melville Lodge. Born in Rouyn-Naranda, Quebec, he was the son of the late Rodrigue and Aurore (Floran) Gauthier.
John worked for the Department of National Defense as a Construction Engineer, until his retirement. He was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, Honor Guard in Lower Sackville and in his spare time he loved playing cards, going to bingo and always enjoyed taking Sunday drives with his wife. John was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Evelyn, Brookside; sons, John (Dale) Sotirakos, Brookside and Claude (Cheryl) Gauthier, Edmonton; granddaughter, Emma Gauthier. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of Melville Lodge for their compassionate care and support.
Arrangements are under the care of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Sunday, February 23 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 24 at 11 AM from the funeral home chapel; with a reception to follow. Committal will take place in St. Johns Cemetery Columbarium. Family flowers only. Donations in John’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
