Obituary of Irene Mary Patricia Verge

Passed away peacefully March 15, 2014. Born in Halifax May 12, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Gertrude "Irene" Fedan and the late Robert "Bob" Verge. Irene had joined the Sisters of Charity in Connecticut at 18 years of age, studied nursing and theology, but changed her vocation to become a nanny and housekeeper. She spent many years travelling and learning new things. When she moved back to Halifax, she spent many years teaching Sunday school and volunteering at the Cancer Society. She leaves behind brother, Ralph Verge, Northwood Centre; sisters, Linda Verge, Halifax; Rhondella (Willis) Gaudet, Digby Co.; nephews Christopher and Stephen; three great nephews; many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by both her parents and grandparents, and a younger sister Kathleen who died infancy. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. (477-5601) 149 Herring Cove Rd., where visitation will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 20. Funeral Mass will be held 10a.m. Friday, March 21 from St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church St. Michael’s Ave. Fr. Sam Basta as celebrant, reception to follow at the Golden Age Social Club, 212 Herring Cove Rd. Interment to take place in Gate Of Heaven Cemetery Lower Sackville. No flowers as per Irene’s wishes, donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association, Food Bank or charity of one’s choice. Special thanks to cousin Paula Lawlor for all the love and care she gave over the last five years and to all the staff on Citadel Court at Parkstone for all the care and attention they gave to Irene for the past few years.
