Obituary of Ronald Andrew Ells

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ron on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the age of 73, in the Abby J. Lane Building, QEII. Born in the Valley and raised in Halifax, he was a son of the late Lewis and Molly (Munro) Ells. Ron worked at the CN Telegraph for 12 years and later drove for Casino Taxi before starting at Olands Brewery, where he worked for 35 years until his retirement. He loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting, first with his father and later enjoyed going to the camp with nephews, Brian and Mark. He was a very kind and generous person who will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. Ron is survived by his wife of 33 years, Doreen (Umlah); brothers, Bill and Daniel (Gareth), both of Halifax; Robert (Verna), Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews; brother in-law, Bernard (Viola) Umlah, Timberlea; special friends, Glenn and Margaret Daviau, Halifax. Special thanks to the staff of the Emergency and Abby J. Lane, 9th floor, for their compassionate care and support. Cremation has taken place under the care of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, where a celebration of Ron’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 13 from 1-3 PM; interment to follow in Fairview Lawn Cemetery. Donations in Ron’s memory may be made to the Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
