Obituary of Frederick William "Fred" Barnes

Halifax, passed away on June 10, 2014.  Born April 28, 1942, to Charles and Stella (Gordon) Barnes in St. John's, NL. and raised in Kelligrews, Fred lost his own father when he  was only a teenager and went to work to support his mother and youngest sister.  In 1963, he fell in love with Betty Acreman of Mary's Harbour, Labrador, and they married in St. John's on May 17, 1966.  Fred was the loving father of Charles (Lois Leveen), Jennifer (Shane McKenna), and Fred (Vanessa), and the adoring "Poppy B." to grandchildren Joshua and Kaelyn.  Although Fred, Betty, and their children moved to Nova Scotia in 1981 and made many dear friends here, Fred always remained a proud Newfoundlander.  Predeceased by his sister Lorna Butler and brothers-in-law Bob Butler and Bill Sears as well as his parents, Fred will be deeply missed by his wife, children, and grandchildren, his brother Gordon Barnes (Louise), sisters Joan Sears and Connie Winter (Jim), and many adoring cousins, nieces, and nephews throughout Canada and the world.  Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. (477-5601), 149 Herring Cove Road, where visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, on Friday, June 13.  Service of Remembrance will be held at Mulgrave Park United Baptist Church, 2 pm Monday, June 16.  Interment will take place privately at St. Peter's Church Cemetery, Hackett's Cove.  In lieu of flowers donations in memory may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada or World Vision or Mulgrave Park United Baptist Church.
