Obituary of Estelita Bolante “Esther” Arriola
Age 83, of Halifax, passed away August 4, 2014 in the Halifax Infirmary site. Born on May 7, 1931 in Cardona Rizal, Philippines, she was a daughter of the late Melencio and Dominga (Bolante) Arriola. Ester worked as a midwife in the Philippines until she came to Canada in 1969 where she enrolled in the CNA program at Dartmouth Regional Hospital. From there she worked at the Victoria General Hospital until her retirement in October of 1991. This gave Esther the opportunity to pursue her love for gardening. This also gave her time to watch her favourite baseball team, the Blue Jays as well as take up a new hobby in line dancing. She will be remembered for her expertise in sewing and crocheting.
Esther is survived by her brother Canny (Erlinda) Arriola, San Francisco; niece Enriqueta "Tita" (Loreto) Lacopia, Halifax ; great niece Leslie (James); great nephew Anthony; sister in law Asuncion, Pittsburgh, as well as many nieces and nephews. Esther was predeceased by her parents; sisters Fidela, Sotera (Pedro), Amelia (Ciriaco) and brother Gerry (Asuncion) Arriola.
Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (477-5601) where visitation will take place Monday August 11 from 2-4pm. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday August 12 at 10am from St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church, Spryfield. Reception to follow. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Donations in Esther’s name can be made to QEII Foundation or to St. Michaels Roman Catholic Parish. Family flowers only.
