Obituary of Gladys Winifred (Marryatt) Smith
Age 100, passed away at Maplestone Nursing Home on October 23rd, 2014. Born in West Pennant, she was a daughter of the late Edward Stanley and Ella May (Findley) Marryatt.
Gladys worked for the Dept. of Public Works, Prov. of N. S. for 28 years, retiring in 1993. She was a long time member of Brunswick St. United Church.
She is survived by her son, Vincent (Janet), Halifax; three grandchildren; Heather Ann (Tim) Devoe, Halifax, Drs. Darryl (Kelly), Lansdowne, Ont. & Neal (Josée), Tantallon; nine great-grandchildren; sister: Kathleen (Carl Caspersen), Mass., USA; brothers: Clifford (Eileen), Halifax and Harold, Lower Sackville;. Gladys was predeceased by her husband, Lemuel, Step-daughter Audrey Gray; brothers: Robie, George, Roy, Reginald, Frederick, Kenneth and Everett; sisters: Hilda Velcoff, Helen Coffey, Bertha Lyons, Ida Batton, and Guida Tough.
Special thanks to the Sheppard Family, where she resided for over 40 yrs. and to the staff of Maplestone Nursing Home (Hale), where she resided for the past six years. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. 149 Herring Cove Rd, Halifax. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on October 28 at St. James United Church Cemetery, Sambro. Reception to follow at the funeral home. Words of comfort can be left at www.walkerfh.com.
