Obituary of Hugh Fraser Penney

86, Spryfield. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Dad on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at home, surrounded by family. He was the son of George and Jenny Rose Penney and brother to three sisters, Viola (Max), Mildred (Norm) and Veda (Ronnie); three brothers, Allison (Iris), John (Gin) and George (Myrna). Along life’s journey he met the love of his life, Leona Vaughan with whom he shared 42 years of marriage. They had four children, Stephen (Charlotte), Linda, Deborah (Gordie) and Brenda. He was blessed with twelve grandchildren, Julie (Jamie), Mark (Kate), Ricky (Dana), Randy (Sheena), Karen, Katherine (Chris), Rachel, Laurie (Jeremy), Matthew (Sarah), Daniel, Jillian and Cathy. Dad was also lucky to have fifteen great grandchildren, Kayla, Ryan, Hailey, Nolan, Jake, Melanie, Trevor, Avery, Owen, Annabelle, Amelia, Isla, Eirik, Jared and Erin. He retired after 40 years of service as a marine electrician. Dad enjoyed going to the country and made many special memories with family and friends, especially, Marg and Garnet. He loved his cat, Zoe, with whom he had many conversations. We would like to extend special thanks to the VON for the exceptional care they gave our dad; also, many thanks to Palliative Care for their compassionate care and support. Arrangements are under the care of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, where visitation will be held on Monday, November 3, from 11AM – 1PM, followed by a service of remembrance at 1PM in the funeral home chapel, Rev. Russell Saulnier officiating. Interment will take place in St. John’sCemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Hugh’s memory may be made to a charity of ones choice.
