Obituary of William C. Cann

William Cann passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2015, at the age of 89. He was a son of the late William and Kate (MacDougall) Cann of Sydney, NS. William was a businessman, working with his brother, John, in the Purcells Cove General Store for many years and later at a furniture and appliance store in Rockingham. In partial retirement, he helped manage Burchill Estates in Eastern Passage. He was a long time member of Harbour West District Council for the Boy Scouts of Canada. He was a keen golfer and a member of the Oakfield Country Club for a number of years. We remember a dignified man who was caring and generous and always ready to help someone in need. He loved watching sports and going on car trips. He loved baking and sharing meals with family and friends. He will be greatly missed.  William is survived by sons, Dennis (Karen) and Steven (Sheri), Halifax; grandsons, Shaun and Colin, Halifax; granddaughters, Angelique and Courtney, Halifax; great granddaughters, Mallory and Madison, Halifax; brother, Gordon, Sydney; sister, Marion Latham, Sydney. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Vera (White) of Purcells Cove and daughter in-law, Margaret (Isnor) Cann of Halifax; brothers, John Cann of Halifax and Seward Cann of Sydney. The family would like to thank the staff at the Halifax Infirmary for their excellent care, and to Howard Jack, church elder, for his friendship and many home visits. Arrangements are under the direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, where visitation will be held on Sunday, February 8 from 2-5 PM.  A service of remembrance will be held on Wednesday, February 11 at the Iona Presbyterian Church (90 Lucien Drive, Dartmouth at the corner of Dorothea and Lucien Drive) at 2 PM, Rev. Cynthia Chenard officiating. A reception will follow at the church hall; interment at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations in William’s memory may be made to the Breast Cancer Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
