Dorothy Margaret ‘Sally’ Watson
February 23rd, 1919 – April 1st, 2015
Watson, Dorothy Margaret ‘Sally’ (96) of Halifax, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully surrounded by family April 1st at Northwood Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Born in Adelaide, Australia, the oldest daughter of the late Douglas and Doris Sharpin of Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, England, ‘Sally’ is survived by her sons Jevan and Peter Watson, plus daughter in law Cathy Watson who reside in Oakfield and Halifax, Nova Scotia, as well as cousin Derek Henderson of Oxford, England.
Although born in Adelaide, Australia, ‘Sally’ lived in Singapore until 1935 when her father retired and the family moved back to England. She joined the VAD (Voluntary Aid Detachment) in January1941, serving in Royal Naval Hospitals in Haslar and Plymouth England before transferring to Ceylon (Sri Lanka) in April 1942, where she served until returning to England in 1945. On October 4th, 1947 she married Alexander ‘Alex’ Frederick Watson who sadly passed away in 2002. Together they took great pride in their two sons, Jevan & Peter. In 1966 the family moved from England to Canada, living in Bedford, Corner Brook and finally Halifax in 1975. Full of personality, Sally was loved by all who met her and will be remembered for her unbelievable sense of humor.
Cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. There will be a service of remembrance on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 10:00 am from the funeral home chapel. Words of comfort may be sent to the family by visiting: www.walkerfh.com.
