Obituary of Marjorie Vaneta Cleveland
It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mom on Friday, April 10, 2015 at Arborstone Enhanced Care after a lengthy illness. Born in Halifax on July 23, 1921 she was the only daughter of the late Harold and Elsie (Levy) Cook. Marge attended Chebucto Elementary and Bloomfield High school and worked at Eaton’s store on Barrington St. She married Gerald (Ace) Cleveland on Dec 1, 1941 just months before he went overseas fore active duty. Marge dedicated her life to being a loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was especially proud of her two sons Barrie and Darrell who supported her living in her own home until 93 years of age.
A longtime resident of Herring Cove and member of St. James Anglican Church she was active in the Women’s Guild for many years. Marge enjoyed cooking, baking and knitting but her biggest joy was spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by son Darrell (Sheila) and their children Sheldon, Lauren, and Ryan (Sara); daughter-in-law Linda and children Heather (Rick) Carson, and Judy (Paul) Parnell; great-grandchildren Stephanie (Jason) Trim, Nicole Trim, Daniel Trim, Michael Trim, Ashton Parnell, and baby girl Cleveland due in Aug; two great-great-grandchildren Ella and Colton; sister-in-law Myrna Cook, numerous nieces and nephews. She was especially close to nephew Neil and wife Gwen. Our sincere thanks to Dr. Lawen and the entire staff of VGH 5B and staff at Arborstone for their excellent care. Marge was predeceased by husband and companion Ace in 1981, eldest son Barrie in 2010, and two brothers Gordon and Douglas Cook.
Arrangements have been entrusted to J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd., Halifax, where a visitation will be held Thursday, April 16 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A funeral service to celebrate Mom’s life will be held on Friday, April 17 at 11:00 am in St. James Anglican Church, Village Rd., Herring Cove; Rev Riding presiding. Burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery after a brief reception. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
No longer in our lives to share,
But in our hearts, you’re always there.
Till we meet again, love you dearly Mom
