Obituary of Marie Theresa Tully (Britton)

Halifax, It is with great sadness that the family of Marie Tully announce her peaceful passing on Thursday May 14 at the age of 87. Born in Dorchester, Mass. On March 29, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Thea (Shields) Britton. In her youth, Marie was an active member of St. Patrick’s Social Club,  where she acquired her love for music and dancing, which she enjoyed throughout her life. Marie worked at Dunn and Bradstreet for several years before her marriage to Ralph "Buddy" Tully, who predeceased her in 2008. She passed away on what would have been his 90th birthday. Marie had a very special bond of love with her two grandsons, Daniel and Matthew Melvin, her daughter Debbie was her best friend, as well as being her caregiver in later years. They will always treasure the special moments they had with her forever in their hearts. Marie had a very sharp mind throughout her life, she loved working at cryptograms and crossword puzzles each day. She had a vivid memory of her families past and loved to retell stories to relatives and friends. Marie was always a kind and generous person, who put others needs before her own. She will be ever remembered with love by all her family and friends. Marie is survived by daughter, Debra (Pat) Melvin; grandsons, Daniel and Matthew (Daniece) Melvin; great granddaughter Elliana Marie Melvin; brothers, Douglas Britton; Robert (Louise) Britton; brother-in-law Frank Stone, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Marie was predeceased by brothers Louis and Jack Britton; sisters Betty Flinn, Shirley Stone; sisters-in-law Hilda and Agnes Britton and nephew Douglas Britton Jr.. Cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., no visitation by Marie’s request. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday May 20 at 11 a.m. from St. Catherine’s Of Sienna Church, 6476 Bayers Rd., Father James Wegner as celebrant. Reception to follow in church hall. Interment to take place in Gate Of Heaven Cemetery Lower Sackville. Family flowers only, donations in memory may be made to the V.O.N, The Red Cross or a charity of one’s choice. The family would like to thank those special women who helped with Marie’s care during the past three years, they include Caitlyn and Melissa, from the V.O.N. and Joanne, Amy and Megan, from the Red Cross. Marie spent her final weeks on 8.4 of the Halifax Infirmary. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and other staff members who provided her with excellent care. She also had wonderful Spiritual support from Sister Joana, Deacon Boudreau, Father Owen Connolly and Gary McVeigh during this time.
