Obituary of Jean D. Salsman-Pay
85, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17, 2015 in the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital. Born in Halifax, Jean was one of seven children to the late Roland and Blanche (Murray) Bell.
She had a deep love of music and regularly got together with her sisters for singsongs. She played the accordion (self taught) as well as the harmonica. Jean had a love of animals, especially her dog Misty and always missed the days she had on the farm. In earlier years she enjoyed playing darts and was part of a league. In later years she spent a great deal of time with her family, living her final year with her grandson, Mark and his family. Jean will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by grandsons, Steven Salsman (Sandra Benedetti), Vancouver, BC and Mark (Holly) Salsman, Dartmouth; step daughter, Diana "DeeDee’ Watson (Bobby), Spryfield; step grandchildren, T.J., Dustin and Madison; great grandchildren, Chase, Bianca, Aric, Rykelle, Christopher and Kasper; great great grandson, Kaiden; sisters, Mary Marriott, Betty Minik and Muriel Shatford, all of Head of St. Margarets Bay. She was predeceased by husbands, Carl Salsman and Percy Pay; son, James Salsman; brother, Murdock Bell; sisters, Ruth Thompson and Dorothy Morash.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Shannon and the rest of the staff at Camp Hill Veterans Hospital for their compassionate care and support.
In keeping with Jean’s wishes there will be no visitation. A service of remembrance will be held on Thursday, May 21 at 1pm in St. Andrews Anglican Church, Timberlea, Rev. Mark Pretty officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrews Anglican Church, Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian Diabetes Association.
