Obituary of Marjorie Kathleen "Kay" Major
84, of Terence Bay, passed away peacefully at Valley Regional Hospital on May 15, 2015, with her loving family at her side. Born in Terence Bay, she was the daughter of the late Sidney Slaunwhite and Margaret Smith.
She leaves behind her daughter June (Larry) Richardson, their two sons, Christopher and Jeffrey; her son Philip (Cathy) Major, their daughters Jennifer and Stephanie; and her daughter Wendy (Gordie) Clarke, and their children Matthew and Sarah. She will also be remembered by her two great-grandchildren, Klea and Valerie. She was predeceased by her late husband Harry Major (1986), brothers Nathan Slaunwhite, Waldo Smith, Buddy and her infant twin sister.
Kay spent most of her life living in Terence Bay with her husband Harry, attending St. Paul’s Anglican Church, and playing a good game of 45’s. For a few years, they experienced living on Betty Island where Harry was head lighthouse keeper. After the passing of her husband, Kay moved to New Germany where she lived for twenty years, and enjoyed her time attending St. John’s Anglican Church and the Rosedale New Horizons Seniors Club. A year ago, she moved to Cambridge to be close to her daughter, June, where she was a member of the Minas 50-Plus Seniors Group. Kay loved nothing more than to be surrounded by her family. She had a great sense of humour, always making people laugh, and really knew how to have a good time, always living life to the fullest.
Our heartfelt thanks and gratitude go out to the VON service for providing in-home-care for our Mom both in New Germany and in Cambridge, and also to the many professionals at The Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville. When thinking of Mom, know she may be somewhere in a cove with Dad having a clam boil and watching the sunset in the evening, together once again.
A celebration of Kay’s life will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Terence Bay on Friday, May 22nd at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul’s Anglican Church.
