Obituary of Frank Engram
Frank left us quietly on the morning Saturday, July 4th, 2015, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Born February 6, 1947, in Spryfield, NS, Frank was the eldest son of the late Bert and Doris (Rose) Engram.
Frank joined the military in 1966, and spent most of his career in Bagotville, QC, where he was able to pursue his love of aircraft. After retiring from the military in 1987, Frank went to work for Bombardier, and then in 2002 he moved back to Halifax to be near his mother, and it was there that he met and married his best friend, Cheryle. In Halifax, Frank went to work for IMP Aerospace, where he stayed for 10 years, until his retirement in 2012. After a few short months of retirement from IMP, Frank decided he wanted to be working again, and joined the Corp of Commissionaires at the Halifax airport, where he was again able to enjoy being close to his first love – airplanes. From his teenage years, Frank was an avid motorcyclist, until he was no longer able to ride due to health issues. After he stopped riding, Frank was able to enjoy his free time with Cheryle camping, fishing, boating, 4-wheeling, and sitting around the campfire with friends at the place he loved most, Clyde Farm Campground. Frank loved listening to music, and spending time with his friends, and over the years, he forged some very close friendships over a plate of wings and a glass of draft. Frank truly enjoyed helping people, and would go out of his way to help someone he loved, or felt was in need. In recent years, Frank became a member of the Armdale Fairview Rockingham Lions Club, where he was able to volunteer his time to help those in need, and he remained active in his volunteering until the last few weeks of his illness.
Frank will be deeply missed by his wife and best friend Cheryle (Townsend); daughter, Julie (Gaetan), Bagotville, QC; stepson, Shane, at home; brother John (Judy), Edmonton, AB; grandchildren, Melodie, Marianne, and Hugo, and countless loving family and friends. Besides his parents, Frank was predeceased by his infant granddaughter, Arielle, and his brother David.
Cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. There will be a brief visitation prior to the funeral service which will be held on Saturday, July 11, at 1:00 PM, from Emmanuel Anglican Church, 322 Herring Cove Rd., Spryfield, with reception to follow at the church hall. Interment to take place at a later date. In keeping with Frank’s wishes, he had requested family flowers only and also requested that any donations be made in his memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
