Obituary of Paul Raymond Pangborne
PANGBORNE, Paul Raymond - Born 16 October 1927 in Halifax, N.S. Passed away August 28, 2015 in Halifax at the age of 87. He was a son of the late Arthur and Hildred Pangborne of Ellershouse, NS. He is predeceased by his older brother, Herbert. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Audrey, and three daughters from his first wife Shirley Madill of South Uniacke, NS – Jill Pangborne of Barrie, ON; Shawn Mole of Calgary AB; and Kelley Murphy of Halifax, NS and grandchildren Lucienne St. Amour and Daniel Mole of Calgary, AB.
After completing high school at Windsor Academy in Windsor NS, he joined the RCAF in 1946, working in various aspects of ground and air photography. He was a photo camera operator in Canada’s 408 Photographic Squadron during the huge peace time initiative of mapping Canada from the air. He served at military bases throughout Canada: in Portage La Prairie, Churchill and Winnipeg, MB; in Rockcliffe and Camp Borden, ON; in Resolute Bay and Coral Harbour, NWT; in Bagotville, QC; in Chatham NB; in Beaverbank and Greenwood, NS and 4-Wing in Germany, finally retiring at HMCS Dockyard, Halifax NS in 1977 after 31 years of service. Following his retirement from the RCAF/CAF he worked with the Province of Nova Scotia’s Department of Lands and Forests-Land Survey Division as a dark room technician until 1989. He worked as a Commissionaire at RCMP Headquarters in Halifax for six years, finally retiring from the workforce in 1996.
Paul's love of flying led him to learn to pilot twin engine and ultra light gliders after retirement. He enjoyed swimming and German Oompah music. An apple a day keeps the doctor away was Paul's motto, so why not eat 6. Anyone can attest that he also loved bacon anything.
Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home(2005) Ltd, 149 Herring Cove Rd, Halifax, where a visitation will take place Friday, October 16, 2015 from 11 am- 1pm followed by a memorial service in the funeral home chapel at 1:00pm. Reception to follow. Interment at North Kingston Public Cemetery, Kingston NS will be held on Saturday October 17 at 1:00 pm. Donations in Paul`s name can be made to the Parkinson Society of Canada.
