Obituary of Gordon Eric Byrne
Age 94, passed away September 2, 2015 in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Frank and Gladys (Rushton) Byrne.
Gordon had been a veteran of WWII serving with the Merchant Navy from 1942 - 1944, he had also served on HMCS Sackville from 1957 – 1991, he was also a very huge lover of dogs. He is survived by daughters, Gail Julian (Carl), Halifax; Beverly Baker (Paul), Lower Sackville; step son Ray; grandchildren, Carla, Kimberlee, Brandon and Kelly and 5 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by wife, Lillian (Billard); step daughters, Eileen and Jean; brothers, Bill, Gerald, Arthur, Vincent and Richard; sister, Helen.
Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. 149 Herring Cove Rd. where visitation will be on today September 4 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be on Saturday September 5 at 10 a.m., Father Henry Ahorlu as celebrant. Reception to follow the interment which will take place in St. John’s Cemetery Bedford Hwy. Halifax. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
